eLEARNING DAY INFORMATION
We are excited to implement eLearning days in place of snow days this year at St. Charles!
If the weather doesn’t cooperate and we have to cancel school, we will complete an eLearning day from home and therefore will not need to make up the day at a later time.
If a snow day is called, you will be notified several ways: Jupiter message and emergency alert, social media, and TV/radio stations.
*This message will contain an alert that we are participating in an eLearning day.
What is eLearning?
eLearning Days give the option for continuing an instructional day away from traditional time limits and a brick and mortar setting. This innovative program has evolved into an engaging instructional model used in many Indiana schools to keep the sequence of learning going in spite of the weather and other challenges.
What does an eLearning day look like?
Students will have a BLUE FOLDER that is to be kept in their backpack that includes a checklist with where to access their school work. Students are responsible for checking off each subject completed on the checklist and then signed off by parents at the bottom of the checklist. In order for students to receive attendance for the eLearning day, the checklist and homework must be turned in and completed within two days of the eLearning day. If they are not returned within 2 days, your child will receive an unexcused absence which could impact their grade. *Teachers will be available for questions during an eLearning day through Jupiter Message from 10 AM to 2 PM. Students are able to work at any time during an eLearning day.
*eLearning days will NOT take place on a two-hour delay schedule.
How do students access and turn in their school work?
Kindergarten to 3rd Grade students will access all of their school work including instructions in their blue snow day folder. Their checklist and finished work are to remain in the folder and returned to school.
Students in grades 4th to 8th will need to refer to their checklist to know where to access their online assignments.
What if there are consecutive snow days?
If we have two consecutive snow days each day will be an eLearning day. There will always be two checklists with two days worth of school work.
*If a third consecutive snow day is called, we will NOT have an eLearning day. This third day will be made up at a later time.
What to do if I have no internet access or power?
We understand that not everyone has internet access at home. We are including a list of places within Bloomington that offer free Wifi. This list is included in the BLUE Folder. Teachers recognize that difficulties may arise. Please notify your child’s homeroom teacher if these problems occur and they will be flexible and help come up with a plan to complete the work in a timely manner.
What to do if you have questions during the eLearning day:
•For questions about your assignments, contact your specific subject area teacher via Jupiter during the hours of 10am - 2pm.
•For questions or password information for Gmail and/or Google Classroom, contact Ms. Sherman at dsherman@stcharlesbloomington.org or through Jupiter.
•For questions about Jupiter or password information, contact Mrs. Arther at varther@stcharlesbloomington.org or through Jupiter.
•If your classroom teacher is not responding in a timely manner, contact Mrs. Paskash at mpaskash@stcharlesbloomington.org or through Jupiter.
•Please note that teachers will work with families if there is an emergency or unforeseen circumstances during your eLearning day in which work cannot be fully completed.
•How long should my child be working during an eLearning day?
•Students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade will have no more than two hours worth of work. Please note that you can break up the assignments and complete them throughout the day. Assignments do not have to be completed in one sitting.
•Students in grades 4-8 will have no more than three hours of work to complete on any given eLearning day.
•Elementary Special Classes: Please note on the checklist if your child needs to complete work in science, media, art, music, or PE. This work will be based upon their weekly schedule and only will be required if the school day would have included that particular special for your child.
