Sacramental Preparation
Second grade is the year of preparation and reception of the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Both Catholics and non-Catholics alike receive the same formation throughout the religion curriculum. In addition to religion class, students attend Catechesis of the Good Shepherd weekly during school. This program focuses on a hands-on, in depth understanding of the Liturgy of the Word and Liturgy of the Eucharist as well as a relationship with Christ through meditating on many parables and Gospel narratives. There are 5 meditations specifically for Sacramental preparation. Students also attend a parent-child evening retreat as well as an in school retreat for final preparation.
While non-Catholic students do not take part in the sacrament itself, they have also made a special journey with their families and friends and are encouraged to attend First Reconciliation and First Communion services to share in the community celebration.
