Mrs. Ashley Spreen
Preschool Teacher I am thrilled to begin my journey as a preschool teacher at St. Charles! In 2009, I graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor's degree in tourism management. This led me into a career as a corporate meeting and event planner, where I worked and traveled throughout North, Central, and South America. After six years, I realized my desire for a more meaningful vocation, prompting me to pursue a transition to teaching program and ultimately attain a master’s degree in elementary education. The majority of my teaching experience took place in southern Indiana, teaching Kindergarten in the public school system. |
This past year, I have been working at St. Charles, helping children individually and in small groups in grades 1 - 5. You might also recognize me from chasing after my own four children, all of whom attend St. Charles: Wren, Olive, Otto, and Wells. In my free time, you can find me at home enjoying our hobby farm with our goats and sheep, or at one of my children's many sporting events!

I graduated from Saint Mary's College Notre Dame, Indiana with a BA in Elementary Education and a minor in Business Administration. In addition, I am certified in Early Childhood Education. One thing I love about St. Charles School is the strong community of fellowship. This school was such a blessing for my kids when we relocated to Bloomington. |
Mrs. Jennifer Urbanski
Kindergarten Teacher Hello! I have been a teacher at St. Charles School for 18 years. 14 of those 18 years I have been a Kindergarten teacher. I have a B.S. in elementary education with a Kindergarten endorsement from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College. In my time away from school, I enjoy reading, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy watching sporting events, walks with my dog, and playing pickleball. St. Charles School is special to me because of all the people that I have gotten to know over the past 18 years. I have been blessed with fantastic co-workers, outstanding families, and wonderful students who make my job so very rewarding! It is truly and HONOR to be a HAWK! |

It's a year of so much growth and a lot of enthusiasm for learning! I love teaching 1st graders! My husband and I have three children and our family has two cats! Outside of school, I love to hike, read, and spend time with my friends and family. I have now been at St. Charles School as a student, teacher, and a parent. It is truly a wonderful place to be! |

I began teaching in 2015 as a K-8 Learning Specialist and have since taught various middle school subjects before moving to St. Charles School in August 2022. I have always loved 1st grade because I love to see the reading "lightbulb" go off! |
In addition to teaching, I love being active and coaching. I was a competitive swimmer through college and began coaching shortly after graduating. I have coached swimming at all levels but especially love coaching high school athletes. I was the head coach of a high school program in Portland for 5 years before joining my best friend's coaching staff at Bloomington North. I love the life lessons that can be taught through sport! My younger brother and his wife still live in Oregon, as do my parents, so I visit them when I can and look forward to hosting them for IU sports weekends! I love living in Bloomington and love the staff at St. Charles School. It has felt like my home away from home since I first visited many years ago!

Before I came to St. Charles School, I worked in a variety of daycares, substitute teaching, and spent time raising my family. My husband and I have 3 children, who have all attended St. Charles School since they were in preschool. I mostly fill my time outside of school with attending games and events for my children. Other than that, I like to read and play with my dogs. The things I love the most about St. Charles School are the friendships and connections you make. My students aren't just my students for one year. Once they are my student, they are always my student. I love watching them grow throughout their time here, and then seeing what they do in the years after. I feel so blessed to be able to do what I love at a school that I love. |

Mrs. Kilah Galvan
6th Grade Teacher I'm thrilled to be the new social studies, math, and religion 6th-grade teacher at St. Charles! Born in Okinawa, my wanderlust began early, leading me to explore over 25 countries, and even obtaining a History Certificate from the University of Kent in Canterbury, England, before settling down and calling Bloomington home. I got married to my husband Jaime (at St Charles Borromeo Church) and graduated from Indiana University with a BA in History and International Studies. I soon thereafter traded in my frequent flyer miles for the joy and organized chaos of raising six incredible kiddos (all St. Charles students except the itsy bitsy one who is still mastering the art of speech) and a brood of chickens. |
In my rare moments of downtime, you'll find me immersed in a good book, exploring new destinations (mentally, anyway), basking in the outdoors with my kiddos, or cheering them on in their various endeavors, all fueled by enough coffee to power a small army of superheroes. I am genuinely thrilled and honored to be here, and I am looking forward to a fantastic year ahead!

My relationship with God is central to my life, and I highly value faith-based, Catholic education. I love St. Charles School because our school community truly feels like a family. Our nurturing atmosphere creates a safe space for children to learn and grow into the amazing people God created them to be. We support each other through difficult times, meet each other with grace when we make mistakes, and celebrate the good times with true joy. If you choose St. Charles School, you will receive a great gift, you will be able to witness the Holy Spirit at work in the Body of Christ.
