I am truly blessed and honored to serve as the St. Charles Principal. I have a passion for high-quality education and a love for St. Charles School and Parish. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics Education and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership at Indiana University. For over 24 years, I have been dedicated to the world of education. I first began my teaching career in Northern Virginia teaching and coaching at the high school level for 9 years before moving to Bloomington.
For the last 15 years, I have taught at St. Charles as the middle school math teacher and am truly invested in the St. Charles community.  During my time at St. Charles, I have also had many other roles in which I have been able to interact with students in all age groups. I have served as Student Council advisor, Washington DC fundraising and trip planner, cross country and track coach, technology director, and middle school assistant principal. I am married to my husband, Jay, who works with track and field logistics. Together we have three children, Sydney, Rylee, and Brody.

and make everyday an adventure.

This is my 5th year teaching at St. Charles School. I'm originally from South Bend, IN. My family and I moved to Bloomington about seven years ago. My husband Matt and I have five children that all attended or are attending St. Charles School. My  twin daughters are freshman at Bloomington High School North. My oldest son is in 6th grade, my middle son in 5th grade, and my youngest son in 3rd grade. Both my husband and I graduated from IU and love living in Bloomington. I love spending my free time with my family and friends, gardening, crafting, running, playing games, and cooking. I love how St. Charles School prepares each student for not only their future at St. Charles School, but also for high school and even college. St. Charles School strives to help all students succeed.

Mrs. Ashley Spreen
Preschool Teacher

I am thrilled to begin my journey as a preschool teacher at St. Charles! In 2009, I graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor's degree in tourism management. This led me into a career as a corporate meeting and event planner, where I worked and traveled throughout North, Central, and South America. After six years, I realized my desire for a more meaningful vocation, prompting me to pursue a transition to teaching program and ultimately attain a master’s degree in elementary education. The majority of my teaching experience took place in southern Indiana, teaching Kindergarten in the public school system.
This past year, I have been working at St. Charles, helping children individually and in small groups in grades 1 - 5. You might also recognize me from chasing after my own four children, all of whom attend St. Charles: Wren, Olive, Otto, and Wells. In my free time, you can find me at home enjoying our hobby farm with our goats and sheep, or at one of my children's many sporting events!

Mrs. Amanda Duncan
Kindergarten Teacher

Hello! My name is Amanda Duncan. I am so excited to be joining the St. Charles staff for the 2026-2027 school year! My husband, Adam, and I have been married for 18 years, and we have four children. We are parishioners of St. Paul’s Catholic Church. One of my daughters is in 7th Grade at St. Charles. I love that we will have a year together at the same school!

I was born and raised in Lowell, Indiana, and came to Bloomington to study Elementary Education at Indiana University in 2003. After graduating and receiving my K-6 Elementary Education License, I taught Kindergarten for 4 years. I then stayed home for 11 years, raising our children. When our youngest child started elementary school in a Behavioral Therapy Program, I taught a year of Pre-K and now another 3 years of Kindergarten. Outside of school, I enjoy listening to audiobooks, cheering on our children in their activities, and spending time with my family. I feel blessed to have this opportunity to teach Kindergarten at St. Charles, and I am honored to be a Hawk!

Mrs. Jennifer Urbanski
Kindergarten Teacher

Hello! I have been a teacher at St. Charles School for 18 years. 14 of those 18 years I have been a Kindergarten teacher. I have a B.S. in elementary education with a Kindergarten endorsement from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College. In my time away from school, I enjoy reading, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy watching sporting events, walks with my dog, and playing pickleball. St. Charles School is special to me because of all the people that I have gotten to know over the past 18 years. I have been blessed with fantastic co-workers, outstanding families, and wonderful students who make my job so very rewarding! It is truly and HONOR to be a HAWK!

Miss Meghan McCormick
1st Grade Teacher

I grew up in Bloomington and am a graduate of St. Charles School! I attended Ball State University and then returned to St. Charles to teach. I taught 4th grade for 8 years: at St. Charles first, and then at St. Thomas Aquinas in Indianapolis. I later returned to Bloomington and St. Charles to teach 1st grade. It's a year of so much growth and a lot of enthusiasm for learning! I love teaching 1st graders! My husband and I have three children, and our family has two cats! Outside of school, I love to hike, read, and spend time with my friends and family. I have now been at St. Charles School as a student, teacher, and a parent. It is truly a wonderful place to be!

Ms. Lauren Nelson
1st Grade Teacher
Assistant Athletic Director

I graduated from Whitworth University with a degree in Elementary Education and endorsements in Reading and Athletic Coaching. I received my Masters of Education Degree from University of Portland in 2017 with a specialty in Teaching English as a Second Language. I began teaching in 2015 as a K-8 Learning Specialist and have since taught various middle school subjects before moving to St. Charles School in August 2022. I have always loved 1st grade because I love to see the reading "lightbulb" go off!
In addition to teaching, I love being active and coaching. I was a competitive swimmer through college and began coaching shortly after graduating. I have coached swimming at all levels but especially love coaching high school athletes. I was the head coach of a high school program in Portland for 5 years before joining my best friend's coaching staff at Bloomington North. I love the life lessons that can be taught through sport! My younger brother and his wife still live in Oregon, as do my parents, so I visit them when I can and look forward to hosting them for IU sports weekends! I love living in Bloomington and love the staff at St. Charles School. It has felt like my home away from home since I first visited many years ago!

Hello! I was born and raised in Bloomington, Indiana. I am the oldest of five children, and a graduate of St. Charles. After attending Bloomington North, I studied elementary education and special education at Ball State University. I live in Bloomington with my husband, Domenic, and our three children, Nico, Ella, and Leo. This is my 14th year teaching and my 8th year teaching at St. Charles. I previously taught second grade and preschool at Helmsburg Elementary. I also taught kindergarten at St. Mary of the Knobs. As a life-long Catholic I am honored to work in a school where God is first in all we say and do. I look forward to getting to know each of your children individually, in order to meet their needs. Thank you for the opportunity to work with your child and share God’s word

Ms. Madeline Graf
3rd Grade Teacher

This is my third year teaching third grade at St. Charles School! I started teaching here right after I graduated from Indiana University (go Hoosiers!). When I'm not at school, I like to read and spend time with my dog, my family, and my friends. My favorite things about St. Charles are our school community and dedication to serving others. Our sense of community across grade levels and the community service we take part in as a school truly make St. Charles School special!

Picture
Mrs. Kylie Hartley
3rd Grade Teacher

Teaching third grade is such a joy.  My husband, Robert, and I are happy to call Bloomington home and enjoy raising our three daughters here. All three of them either are or have been St. Charles students. I have been in the field of education for nearly 20 years with various jobs including research, evaluation, and teaching. My teaching experience ranges from early childhood through graduate school and although I've enjoyed each of these teaching experiences for different reasons, working with primary students is my favorite.  I earned a doctorate in learning and developmental sciences from Indiana University in 2015 and have a passion for helping students foster their literacy skills. When I’m not working, you will most likely find me reading or outside, preferably doing something active with my family.

Picture
Mrs. Sarah Greer
4th Grade Teacher

I have taught 4th grade at St. Charles School since 2018. I have been a parent of the school for even longer though, since 2011! I graduated from Rhode Island College with my BS in Education and a concentration in Mathematics. Before I came to St. Charles School, I worked in a variety of daycares, substitute teaching, and spent time raising my family. My husband and I have 3 children, who have all attended St. Charles School since they were in preschool. I mostly fill my time outside of school with attending games and events for my children. Other than that, I like to read and play with my dogs.
The things I love the most about St. Charles School are the friendships and connections you make. My students aren't just my students for one year. Once they are my student, they are always my student. I love watching them grow throughout their time here, and then seeing what they do in the years after. I feel so blessed to be able to do what I love at a school that I love.

My "other children" are of the furry persuasion. We have two Boxers, Hank and Gus. We also have 3 cats Sully, Coco, and Chloe. Both of my boys are St. Charles Alumni, attending from Preschool through 8th Grade and have excelled in their academic careers since then (which I believe is a direct result of growing up here at St. Charles School!). This is my 17th year at St. Charles School, and my 14th year teaching in the 5th grade. I LOVE it here!

Picture
Mrs. Kilah Galvan
6th Grade Teacher

I'm thrilled to be the new social studies, math, and religion 6th-grade teacher at St. Charles! Born in Okinawa, my wanderlust began early, leading me to explore over 25 countries, and even obtaining a History Certificate from the University of Kent in Canterbury, England, before settling down and calling Bloomington home. I got married to my husband Jaime (at St Charles Borromeo Church) and graduated from Indiana University with a BA in History and International Studies. I soon thereafter traded in my frequent flyer miles for the joy and organized chaos of raising six incredible kiddos (all St. Charles students except the itsy bitsy one who is still mastering the art of speech) and a brood of chickens.
In my rare moments of downtime, you'll find me immersed in a good book, exploring new destinations (mentally, anyway), basking in the outdoors with my kiddos, or cheering them on in their various endeavors, all fueled by enough coffee to power a small army of superheroes. I am genuinely thrilled and honored to be here, and I am looking forward to a fantastic year ahead!

Mrs. Michelle Goetz

Hello! I'm excited to be entering my 22nd year at St. Charles School, the last 15 years in 6th grade. In my spare time I enjoy reading, hiking (especially the National Parks), camping, watching movies, and spending time with my family and friends. I am blessed that both of my children are graduates of St. Charles School, and I can't imagine any other place I'd rather teach than here.

As a product of Catholic schooling, I feel passionate about the value of Catholic education. I attended college at the University of Louisville, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Middle and Secondary Education with a concentration in Social Studies and a minor in History. I also have a Master’s degree in Teacher Leadership from the University of the Cumberlands and earned my National Board Certification in 2020. I am currently in my ninth year of teaching. Mrs. Natalie Godsil
Middle School Math Teacher

I am blessed to have the opportunity to join the St. Charles School community. My husband, Joseph, and I have four children who all attended Catholic elementary school and graduated from Cardinal Ritter High School in Indianapolis. After several years as a parent volunteer at my children’s school, I returned to college to pursue a teacher education program.

My education background includes a BS in Welding Engineering from Millikin University and an MA Ed from Lewis University. I hold an IN license in elementary grades K-8 and middle school subjects in math, science, and social studies.
This is my 16th year teaching in a Catholic school setting which includes experience with intermediate grades and middle school math and social studies at Saint Susanna and St. Michael-St. Gabriel Catholic Schools. Before teaching, I spent over 13 years in the manufacturing industry including Pratt & Whitney as a manufacturing engineer and Caterpillar as a welding engineer. When not in the classroom, I enjoy reading, volunteering, and traveling with family. I have a true passion for working with young adults and celebrating their personal and spiritual growth. I also enjoy integrating my background as an engineer into my classroom to inspire students to appreciate math.

Ms. Christy Schmeckebier
Middle School Science Teacher

I have been teaching at St. Charles School for nearly a decade. I graduated from Indiana University in 2000 with a degree in Elementary Education (Special Education Minor and Middle School Science Endorsement). In 2006, I earned my Master of Science in School Counseling. I taught in three different schools over five years and I served as the Elementary Counselor at Cloverdale Elementary for seven years. I love camping, hiking, and traveling with my three children. My hobbies include making photobooks, reading, cycling, and spending time at Grandview Lake in Columbus, IN.
I received a Teacher Creativity Fellowship Grant from the Lilly Endowment in 2024. My proposal, “Faith in Science: A Sacred Pilgrimage Honoring Catholic Innovators and My Own Transformative Journey,” will allow me to travel to France, Italy, and Poland to explore the historical sites related to Copernicus, Galileo, Pasteur, Lavoisier, Mendel, Ampère, Mercalli, and Braille to gain a deeper appreciation of their contributions to science and the Catholic Faith.

My relationship with God is central to my life, and I highly value faith-based, Catholic education. I love St. Charles School because our school community truly feels like a family. Our nurturing atmosphere creates a safe space for children to learn and grow into the amazing people God created them to be. We support each other through difficult times, meet each other with grace when we make mistakes, and celebrate the good times with true joy. If you choose St. Charles School, you will receive a great gift, you will be able to witness the Holy Spirit at work in the Body of Christ.

Mr. Bob Packo
Media & Technology

I am truly blessed and excited to join St. Charles School as the Media Lab teacher. This community has already been such a welcoming place to call home. Prior to joining St. Charles, I worked throughout the country in media and entertainment across film, television, digital media, and virtual production, including contributions to Academy Award and Emmy-winning projects. Early in my career, I also had the opportunity to teach children the fundamentals of filmmaking, an experience that helped spark my passion for working with students. My educational background sits at the intersection of media and technology, with training in film and audio production, digital media tools, coding, and information technology. I look forward to helping students build creativity, confidence, and strong technical skills in the Media Lab.

Outside of school, I enjoy running, attending concerts and plays, and going to the movies. My wife, Heather, works at Indiana University, and our daughter is a proud St. Charles student. Our family is grateful to be part of this wonderful school and parish community!

I began my career in education as an instructional aide and later earned my Transition to Teaching certification from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. I have taught Spanish within MCCSC and have also worked as a substitute teacher. I am excited to join the St. Charles School community. In my free time, I enjoy crafting, spending time with family and friends, watching movies, and traveling.

I joined St. Charles in January of 2025 after retiring from my position as an Assistant Director in Student Services at Indiana University.  I also spent many years of my career in market research as Director of Stone Research Services/The Farnsworth Group  in data collection, training and operations.   I hold a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance from the University of Cincinnati.    Both of my kids attended St. Charles from preschool to graduation, and I currently have two grandchildren attending as well.  I love to spend time boating on Lake Cumberland in Kentucky and enjoy reading and spending time with my family.

Hi! I grew up in Canada and learned both English and French. I moved to Indiana when I was 14 and graduated from the University of Evansville in 2001. My son and daughter attended St. Charles School from Preschool through 8th grade and they loved it! I started volunteering at St. Charles School in 2010 and volunteered for 11 years.  I then started working at St. Charles School in 2021. I've really enjoyed working with Preschool to 3rd grade as a teaching assistant! I love the close and caring relationships you build with students, families, and staff. When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, hiking, and kayaking.

This is my 10th year working at St. Charles School. I have worked a variety of jobs from front office, 3-5 grade teaching assistant and middle school instructional teaching assistant. My husband Mike and I have three children, Patrick (24), Ryan (19), and Erin (18), all proud St. Charles School graduates! I like to garden and bake. The thing I love most about St. Charles School is how close we are as a staff and school community!

My husband and I moved to Bloomington two years ago as he assumed the role of Chief Medical Officer at IU Health. After meeting each other as students at IU in the late 80’s, we married and raised our four children in Avon, Indiana.  After many years as a stay-at-home mom, I returned to continue working in Early Childhood Education in both private and public school settings. I have had the opportunity to teach in general education as well as in special education.  I am thrilled to continue this work at St. Charles this year. My husband and I enjoy attending sporting events and are fans of live music as well.  We look forward to spending time with our adult children whenever possible. I am excited to learn and work with the students, families, and staff of St. Charles.

I was born and grew up in Thailand. I moved to the United States in 2005, after I graduated from university and worked for a couple of years. I got my master's degree of Science in Healthcare Management from California State University in Los Angeles, CA. We moved to Bloomington, IN in 2010 and I came into the Catholic church at the Easter Vigil in 2018. I started helping with religious education class (Sacramental Prep 1) soon after. In the fall of 2021, I started working as a teacher aid in the preschool class and this is my first year as an Office Manager. I have three children and all of them are at St. Charles School. I enjoy crafting, decorating for events, and sewing. One thing I love about St. Charles School is that we are a family here and I can feel God's presence and His love everyday.

Mrs. Suzie Abram
Marketing & Advancement Coordinator

My husband and I are proud parents of four children, all of whom have been part of the St. Charles community. With two of our children now graduates and our two youngest currently enrolled, St. Charles has been an important part of our family’s life for many years. Being part of such a welcoming and faith-filled school community has been an incredible blessing.

Our family’s journey to St. Charles began after our children attended public school, giving us a unique perspective on the transition to Catholic education. Experiencing both environments firsthand has strengthened our appreciation for the academic excellence, faith formation, and strong sense of community that make St. Charles so special.

Prior to joining the staff, I served for five years as president of the St. Charles School Commission, working alongside dedicated faculty, staff, and families to support the mission of our school. I’m excited to serve as the Marketing and Advancement Coordinator, and I look forward to helping current and prospective families discover all that St. Charles has to offer.

I fell in love with St. Charles School when my children (Johnny, Iris, Lucy) started attending in 2020, which led to my Catholic conversion and joining the Hawks in 2023 as the school nurse. I am from Bloomington, as well as my husband John, who is a St. Charles alum! I have been a nurse since 2005 and have fully enjoyed working with our students and families! I also work part time for IU Health as a family nurse practitioner. Our family enjoys spending time at the lake and cheering on the Hoosiers. I also love sharing the gift of the rosary and leading our Monday Mornings with our Mother of Mercy at school.  The community at St. Charles is truly exceptional and am honored to be a part of this incredible place!

I attended Purdue University and earned a degree in Dietetics. Before coming to St. Charles in August of 2020, I worked at Indiana University and St. Paul’s Catholic Church. Being the school “Jenitor” or janitor, I get to be a part of the St. Charles School family. I love being at St. Charles; it is a beautiful school.

I am devoted to the Blessed Mother and a member of the Franciscan M.I.M. (which stands for The Mission of the Immaculata Mediatrix). I attend Mass every day. I also enjoy decorating my “farmhouse” and having coffee breaks with faith-sharing friends.
