Middle School Social Studies
In Middle School Social Studies, students begin to take a wider perspective of the world - focusing on world civilizations, culture, civics, and American history. Students study maps and other forms of primary and secondary sources to critically examine the past and how it has led to the modern world.
6th grade Social Studies combines 2 courses: World History/Geography and Civics. Each course is about 1 semester. Civics covers topics related to citizenship and government at the local, state, and national levels. World History/Geography covers the Americas, Europe, and Russia.
7th grade Social Studies focuses on World Geography, specifically the Eastern Hemisphere, with a theme of human rights and conflict. The emphasis will be on historical writing, collaboration, and discussion.
8th grade Social Studies discusses the strengths and weaknesses of the United States government, our responsibilities as citizens, and how issues from over two centuries still affect our society.
